INFO

I’m an artist who uses photography as a starting point. For me photography is too limited in itself. It needs to have a dialogue with the space, because you make a photography of something 3 dimensional and turn it automatically in something 2 dimensional when you take a picture of something or someone. To make it more 3 dimensional again it needs to go in dialogue with the space.  In this way photography becomes 3 dimensional. For this, I combine photography with sculptures, sound, video and daily life objects. It will enter a dialogue with the space and becomes 3 dimensional again.

In my work, I deal with subjects related to the idea of forbidden fruit. When something is forbidden, it is way more attractive for me. I want to learn about the unknown aspects and the consequences of these so-called forbidden subjects, which are supposed to be dangerous. I like to test these consequences while addressing them in my work.  Subjects we don’t like to talk about, or we daren’t to make fun of. Subjects which are sensitive in our society or in a very personal aspect. For example, death is something very common, but still it’s hard to speak openly about the subject. My way of working has as main motto: keep on digging, not only research related, but also in finding the right form for the project. As a maker if feel the urgent need to break the pre-assuagement about photography, it’s not only a mirror from reality or a creation of your own fantasy. With photography, you can make the viewer believe it’s the reality, because photography has the value in itself that we almost automatically believe what we see. That’s basically the other way around. I like to play with this, and photography gives me the possibility to do so. Comparing to painting for example, it’s easier to paint something that’s not there, than to photograph something that is not there.

Collaboration and interaction are major aspects in my work. Experimentation is a big aspect in my methodology. A photo is flexible in my beliefs. It can exist in much more forms than we are familiar with. I like to push this boundary and want to create experimentation, in such a way that it almost feels naturally in the first place, but after a while you don’t think the same anymore.
